Whatcha play'n?

Yo. Pretty much going for the purely video game version of the "What's new in your life?" topic here. Appologies if this is a redundant thread, but I felt like it would be a good place for random video game discussion about things that my not be worth posting a whole new topic for.

Been play'n all sorts of stuff lately. Kind of on a mad hop from game to game. Had a Skyrim urge for a while, but that's pretty much played out. Made a sneaky bow using character, and I'm loving the new cinematic kill shots for bows. Not bad watching my arrow plunge into the eye socket of a bandit archer I was long distance dueling.

Tried out Fez a bit but I think I'm gonna come back to that later. Also working on a Minecraft project. Built a cabin and a small farm on the top of two tall hills. Looks pretty sweet. Just beat Uncharted 2 again, and I'm feeling keen for another playthrough of Uncharted 3.

Aside from that, they finally released the PSP version of YS Chronicals for download on the Vita, so I'm finally taking a stab at Hard mode in Ys II. I don't normally play for a ton of challenge, but I sailed through II on normal last time so I thought I'd give hard a shot. After playing The Oath in Felghana (PSP remake of Ys III) there's not much that's too difficult in other Ys games. Seriously, that one is very hard, and a blast to play. As for II, I've beaten the first boss so far, and I gotta say I'm impressed. In most games I've played hard just means the enemy has more life, or more defense, and is stronger. Well, on normal the first boss of Ys II fires off a few pulses of energy at you rather sporadically, and is easy to beat. On hard mode its pulses covered most of the area and fired off almost constantly. Instead of just shooting off a charged fire blast at it and running aside, you actually have to dodge through the openings in its attack and do your best to be lined up on the thing when you go to fire off an attack. It was great that harder meant the boss was actually more aggressive and had better attacks, rather than just some stat boosts. I almost shudder at what some of the tougher bosses are going to throw at me, but this game is so much fun that I actually don't mind repeatedly dying (something I normally have little patience for).

I jump around on games on a constant basis, because I'm pretty sure I have a mild case of ADD =P Amazingly though, I'm currently playing Diablo 3 almost exclusively. There are a few other things I've played a lil here and there meanwhile, like Kid Icarus, Might Switch Force (3DS d/l game), and Dungeon Village (iOS). Though I HAVE been getting the urge go go play some more classic games again, but as I'm busy and occupied I haven't fully decided on what...Breath of Fire 3 is a heavy contender atm...and I'm going to force myself into using different characters this time if I do lol.

Pie and I recently beat Seiken Densetsu 3 with Hawkeye (Dark-Light), Riesz (Light-Dark) and Charlotte (Light-Light). We pretty much wrecked everything once we hit third jobs, which was pretty fun.

It was actually my first time playing the game with the English translation, which was a long time goal of mine to do. I've beaten it maybe two or three times before when I plunked down the huge wad of cash back in the day to import it new from Japan. I'll always remember sitting there with tons of sheets of paper with Kanji scrawled on them with vein attempts to translate item names. It was necessary so I could re-stock my items without too much trouble. Back then, there were no walkthroughs, so I had to stumble my way through the game. I think my original file was about 60 hours and the game Pie and I had clocked in at 23. Talk about a lot of walking around, trying to figure out what to do to progress back in the day.

Right now, we have moved on to playing Eternal Darkness, which I've wanted to share with Pie for a long time. I also recently started playing Amnesia, which is pretty cool so far. I guess I'm in a horror mood right now~

Heh, I'm one of those people where, unless I'm in a serious rut playing something (Skyrim), I pretty much can only focus on one game at a time.

And right now, that game is Beyond Good and Evil, because it was $5 on XBL last week.

AT YOUR SERVICE, MISS JADE THYRUS.

Oh man Bear, that's awesome. I too had played...stumbled through the Japanese version (have the cart with box and all) a few times...man that translation really helps. Riesz is obviously my fav but everyone has cool stuff, esp some of the job changes, love that art.

Beyond Good and Evil is good too though I never got to finish it. I know I got far just can't remember...been a while.

@Kerreth Heh, funny.

I'm not so much jumpy as I am a creature of mood. I'll play a game while I'm in the mood but I can easily lose it, so I start hopping around when I don't have too many strong urges. Some games I buy and play right away, and some I let sit for months. I have a few, just a couple, in my collection that I've still never played. Those I have at least lent out so it wasn't a total waste of money. Still, should probably actually play shadow of the collosus someday. Of course, there is the HD version with Ico, which I've also never played (but at least haven't bought).

Of course, some games I'll play exclusively once I start. One reason I'm playing all these other games is to get any other urges I have out of the way before I get back to Hyperdimension Neptunia. Yeah... Once I start playing that game I can't get away from it. It has a really addictive formula. Small story sequences unlock small dungeon sequences that unlock small story sequences... and so on and so on. Anyway, I know that once I go back to it I won't be playing anything else (except handheld stuff which I don't usually play at home).

Well, as you may or may not know, I have been descending into the madness that is Dark Souls. Probably the hardest game made in the past couple of decades that wasn't a 2D indie game. But it is more than just a difficult game that loves to punish you endlessly. There are elements of discovery that I haven't felt since Mario 64. There's always something to explore off the beaten path, even though it almost always ends in a violent death at the hands of some creature you've never seen before. Still, if you're awesome enough, you could still beat the beast and get some new item that might be useful to you. It are these random side paths that lead me to slip into madness and forget about everything else during the weekends. Best to play this one without looking a guides and stuff, or you'll spoil some of the fun.

I've been delving a bit into each PS3 game I got recently after obtaining my own console. So far I've been playing DiRT 3, Gran Turismo 5, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Folklore, inFamous, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, and Uncharted 3. The only one I haven't played is Battlefield 3, but only because I'm slightly intimidated by the epicness of the trailers for it. It looks so amazing. /omg

btw, who has PS3 here? I'll look for you on PSN.

Man I suddenly have a hanker'n for some Gundam vs Zeta Gundam. Whole title "Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs Zeta Gundam." In most reviews for the game (PS2) all anyone could talk about was how many times the word Gundam appears in the title. Well, it probably is more of a nitch game for gundam and mech fans in general. Third person with a simple control scheme. To attack you lock on, done automatically when you get close enough or with a button press. There's one button for your main long range attack, one button for short range, and then a button for a special attack (Usually a sub weapon - nothing crazy). You can also use shoulder buttons to add flair to your melee attacks. It doesn't sound like you can do much with it, but Alexx and I got a lot out of this control scheme. As a team we'd wreck everything in front of us, and we've had some great duels. Though we rarely every actually finished them since we got so good at fighting each other that neither of us could win before the timer ran out. To be clear, its a squad based (as in squad of 2) action game. Each side has a... worth gauge, I guess you would call it. This plays a roll in that some of the Mobile suits you can pilot are a lot stronger than others, but have a much greater worth, so if someone is in a weaker suit you have to kill them more times to even it out. You fight until one side's worth is depleted.

Okay, back to how awesome Alexx and I are. Anyway, we would use the record feature to save our best battles, but this only works with the timer set. We've played without the time limit, but we can't save those fights. We have a few gems. One such worthy save is a battle where we actually double KO'd each other with beam cannons. There are also times when we got into beam saber clashes. And by that I mean that we dueled used the same type of MS and both hit the melee button at the same time, and would run in and deflect each others attack. And then we'd do it again. And again. It was hilarious, and we'd keep doing it untill the timing got the better of one of us, or one of us tried something different (usually me, in which case I'd lose the clash). Anyway, I could go on and on, but that would make this a video game memories post.

The game also has a survival mode, which Alexx and I got pretty far in as a team, and a story mode, which mostly follows the timeline of Zeta Gundam. The thing is that you can unlock more characters as you go, which not only unlocks some One Year War timeline (the first gundam series), but also lets you alter the timeline. This is mainly done by unlocking a character that dies at some point, and playing and surving the battle where they normally die (not easy). Can also be done by beating some battles in a certain amount of time.

Anyway, great game. Perfect for hanging out in the basement and just playing a game for weeks on end (we also did this with Guilty Gear XX). And I want to play it.
