WildStar

Well, another year and another impressive MMO comes barreling down at us, this time in the name of WildStar.

I have to admit that after not being as hooked on GW2 as I thought I would be, I'm going to try and remain a little less hypetastic about other MMOs, including this one. I have been following WildStar for several months and been waiting a bit for more concrete details before sharing and getting excited about it, but now it looks like they will be ramping up as they hope to release this year.

Here are some interesting known tidbits:
  • 2 factions with 4 races each
  • 6 classes, bound by race
  • 4 "paths", each player chooses one which determines about 20-30% of the content they experience
  • Professions will be in game and are separate from paths
  • Seamless world with large continents
  • Player housing
  • Modifiable terrain that can be changed at runtime allows the dev team to modify content quickly and easily, and they promise for micro-updating so content is kept fresh and updated often
  • 40-man competitive raids and hints at variable size raid groups, keeping major story accessible to small groups and solo players
  • They want to have UI addons but have alluded to not allowing mods that fracture the playerbase such as DPS parsers and gearscore mods
  • They would like to facilitate player councils to provide feedback to developers, admitting that players can have insights into the game the dev teams can't see.
  • They would like to work on way for peer-reviewed player generated content to show up in game with possible ways of monetizing said content, though this may not be implemented until a year after launch

Hmmmm... Winter Beta is coming, but when I went to sign in, it appeared that I had no account.

I have since resigned up, because sad face.

You know, when the beta first came out, I stopped playing because it ran so terribly on my computer. Now that I no longer have Vista and my computer is running smoothly, I am really looking forward to checking it out.

I don't want to over-hype this game...I don't....but I am giddy and excited to explore it :3

Yeh, my expectations aren't really that high, but that's cause I'm holding myself back and know once I get to play it I probably won't have a lot of time for it.

Also, as I am currently watching Log Horizon, I am careful about what MMO's I try to play, in case I get Tron'd into the game.

Bear and I've been playing Wildstar for the past month, and we've been having a blast! =D There are some problems with bots farming nodes and some simple UI functions that we've gotten used to being in WoW that aren't in Wildstar, but overall, it's been a positive experience.

Carbine mentioned that they plan on doing large updates monthly, their first one being called Strain in which they'll be adding two new zones and various other cool things. One of which I'd like to point out being a new emote. I wanted to share their video, but they didn't post it on youtube so I can't get a direct link. Go HERE and scroll down to "emote" to see it! XD It makes me laugh. =)
