Well, then, I propose a dedicated Megaman thread!

...Either that or a dedicated I-hate-Capcom thread. I'm kind of torn between the two.

I've only played a few megaman games, and only Maverick Hunter X all the way through, and they do have at least a few of my tears. MHX was a lot of fun (and an intersting game with respect to this topic), and I was really hoping they would keep making those. I was especially looking forward to seeing what they would do with X2. Ahhh... barely a megaman fan and they managed to disappoint even me. They're not my strong suit, but I had a blast with MHX. I even played it on hard, which I rarely do (and partly because I wanted to save face with my expert megaman playing friends). I know these games are good, though, because I can sit and watch Alexx playing them and not get bored.

Man, I'm really burned out with all of these re-skinned updates to classic games. To be honest, I'm totally floored that Duck Tales Remastered and Zelda ALTP 2 are getting the hype and love that they are. Sometimes I wonder if I'm seriously disconnected from popular opinion because the Duck Tales remake is actually upsetting to me and Zelda ALTP2 is largely uninteresting.

Let me qualify this. I freaking loved Duck Tales as a kid and I loved the NES game. For those growing up watching Duck Tales back in the day, it was just one of the most amazing cartoons around and I think it still holds up beautifully today. Pie and I reminisce about it from time to time and I was fortunate enough to turn her onto the NES classic. Pie and I are also fans of Way Forward (the studio in charge of the Remaster); we were able to score a tour there one time and they were super awesome and we'd like to see some of their original IPs like Shantae and Switch Force get more love.

What I feel is upsetting is that all the effort is being put into a remastered game. Yes the NES game was great and fun. But with the experience of WayForward and the popularity of the series, why not just, ya know, make a NEW game? And thus digs at some of the problems facing us today: fear to try and deliver something new, relying on old formulas not necessarily to always reap significant profit margin but more to avoid failure from trying something new. "Hey, you loved that old game! We'll just skin it, add a couple things and you can love it once again". No thanks. There are plenty of new and interesting games that will get my cash and attention.

I really feel this applies to Zelda ALTP2 as well. Nothing that Nintendo has shown so far seems all too interesting. It looks like a port with some bells and whistles and while I loved the original to death, I just can't get excited to explore the same ol' Hyrule, climb the same ol' tower and fight the same ol' boss. If I wanted to do that, I'd play the original again. I'm also not a fan of the cheesy-looking 3D but I'm hoping that Nintendo has a lot more than what was shown because the idea is rife with potential but none of that was on display in their announcement.

Yeah, I know it is a sequel. What was shown was in fact a re-used boss and boss room ( vs ), a and no hint of new dungeons or new bosses. But hey, it's a direct sequel, so similarities are to be expected. I just don't want it to be too similar, otherwise it's not a real sequel. And no, a new story isn't enough.

But hey, it might be great, but what they've shown doesn't display any hint of it yet. That said, I did really like Link going PaRappa and gliding onto the wall; that was genuinely cool.
