Cuteness Vector

Postby Alexx » Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:50 am

Oh, Propeller Rat. It seems like no one ever sets out to build a mascot, but it happens anyway. The Slime, from Dragon Quest, the Goomba, the Chocobo. And now: The Propeller Rat. At the very least, in a list of easily-killable-but-cute enemies, the Propeller Rat can fly above it all when the going gets tough.

...except that they're programed to come right at you.

As for the topic of the blog post: The only experience I had with Tomb Raider was a demo of the first game that came with some other game. Since I'm from the "how far can get get" generation (as opposed to the "how many points can you get?" generation before me) we spend our time with "how high can we climb?" That seemed to be the natural progression of a person like myself, who was familiar with side-scrollers. Now we can go up, and then look DOWN to see how high we are! ...then we took Lara into a swan dive off the cliff. Such is the way of a child!

Look closely at the cat's shoulders, though. The wings are held on by little straps. They're just cats with wings attached to them that can fly and really don't want you to cross a bridge.

Gonna have to disagree with you guys on this one, the Troupple King is the greatest of all time.

The King of fruit and fish! Long may his stem grow!

Octoroks are a pretty good mascot, considering the only game they didn't make an appearance in was Twilight Princess (it had some other dorky replacement). Some games have more obvious mascots, of course, like Metroid having... wait I know! I know! Those spiky things that crawl all over the walls, right? Right? /no1
