Ah, Farore your report card story reminds me of my own report card fun time. My mom was very focused on my education when I was young. She wanted better for me, so she always tried to get me into advanced classes, and made a big deal out of getting good grades. She was never unrealistic about it, but I had better at least be getting A's and B's. Well, my report card came in the mail and when she pulled it out she saw a D. Needless to say she flipped, and literally kicked me out the front door. Let me add that my mother was never abusive. She'd whoop me when I deserved it, but even that was rare. A D was just too much for her though. So I'm kicked out the front door and stuck on the porch, and I'm begging to come back in because theres a huge wasp flying around the bushes right next to the porch, and a moment later she does let me.
The report card wasn't mine. They had slipped another person's card into the envelope with mine, and the D belonged to them. My card had acceptable grades. I don't really remember what happened after that. I'm sure she was embarassed. Both of us look back on that story and laugh now. So long as you don't read too much into me getting kicked out the door, it's pretty funny.
Speaking of whoopings, I only have two memories of getting spanked. One was from my dad because I rode my bike too far down the street (I told you not to go past the bushes!!). I wasn't even old enough to be in school yet so this rule was of course to protect me, and the lesson did sink in. The other is from my mom, and I'm not sure if it's even true. I have a distinct memory of her trying to catch me so she could punish me. Again I'm young, but in this memory I'm doing an AWESOME job and avoiding her. I'm running through the house, jigging and dashing, and I clearly remember jumping on a chair and jumping off the side to evade her. That probably never actually happened. At least, not as awesome as I remember it.
One thing that is pretty common: hopping in the car and ending up at your destination without any idea of how you got there.
It is amazing how you go all these places with your parents or other family and never really understand how it's all put together. Then you start driving and the world changes (though I can think of a person or two who still aren't sure how it's all put together). When I was young it was amazing that my mom knew how to drive to all the different places. From memory! Crazy! Now of course I have my own road map in my head, and can memorize a route pretty quickly. My best was memorizing the route from my neighborhood in the suburbs just south of Detroit, to my then girlfriend's dorm at Michigan State University in East Lansing in one trip. It's about a two hour drive so I'm proud of that one.
I used to think the What-a-Burger fast food place was called Water Burger. I always wondered just how they made a burger out of water.
Water burger. That's great. I think I may have eaten a water burger actually... Reminds me of item synth in the Ar Tonelico series, specifically the food based healing items. In the second game one of your characters creates an item called the "Soda in Burger." The picture is of a hamburger with blue liquid leaking out and a straw stuck in the top bun. Another notable food item from AT is the "Food Juice" from the first game. Actually, it looks delicious. BBQ soda, not so much. But I'm going off on a tangent.
